How many people do you know that will actually admit to watching porn or purchasing pornographic material? Even if they do admit, how many people do you know are actually comfortable even speaking of the topic if it was question hit at random? To me it seems as though society has put a toll on what is considered to be "appropriate" and what is considered "inappropriate" and that is why people may not feel comfortable talking about porn as oppose to sports or something that is not "hidden". Many people argue that pornography effects society in a negative way, those many people are also overlook that pornography essentially started as a business and till this day it is still a business. According to the article written by Frank Rich called, "Naked Capitalist", "4$ billion that Americans spend on pornography is larger than the revenue accrued by either N.F.L., the N.B.A. or Major League Baseball…porn business is estimated to total between 10$ billion and 14$ billion annually in the United States”. It seems strange to me how people spend so much porn yet it seen as subject to frown upon.
Cant wait to hear what you have to say! Interesting topic!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Stacy! This seems really interesting. Society really has shaped our morals and values and I can't wait to hear more about what you have to say.
