Gay Marriage?

For my persuasive speech, I am focusing on gay marriage. I want to convince my audience that gay marriage is not immoral and should be legal all the states, just not some. I believe that gay marriage should be legal because it is wrong to deny gays of their rights due to their sexuality. There are many arguments opposing gay marriage, however none of them seems to sufficient. As many of you know on March 2010, DC became the sixth place in the nation where same-sex marriages can take place alongside with Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont. Allowing gay marriage licenses to same-sex couples in America’s capital marks a significant victory for the national movement to secure the freedom to marry and a great joy for D.C couples who no longer need to leave home to secure the protections and responsibilities of marriage for their families. The court’s ruling signifies a victory for justice and the protection of all D.C residents against inequality. Having gay marriage so close to lawmakers in the District will open up hearts and minds for legislators in the red, purple, and blue states where, to this date, gay marriage remains against the law. Legalizing gay marriage is building on the American’s traditions of moving civil rights forward and erasing discrimination of the past, and providing homosexuals with the same rights and privileges as heterosexuals.
