After a figure skating judging scandal in the 2002 Winter Olympics, the old 6.0 judging system was thrown away and a completely new judging system (originally aptly named the “New Judging System”, but now known as the International Judging System, or IJS) was created. The purpose of IJS was to make the judging more objective and less prone to scandals. However, IJS has far too many flaws. While some believe IJS is much better than the old 6.0 system, they probably have not taken a closer look at the details of IJS. The IJS is very complicated, but hopefully I will be able to explain the basics of how it works to you and why it is flawed.
